A very interesting piece by Steve Coll, not only portraying Mr Rassoul, a nephew of King Amanullah, on the other hand also describing the life and advertise with host countries of Afghan diplomats appointed by the collapsed Afghan Islamic Republic, with some notable quotes:
“When I’m asked who you are representing, Uncontrollable say, ‘The Afghan people,’ because phenomenon don’t have anymore a government.”
Of rank U.S. decision to negotiate directly let fall the Republic’s enemies, Rassoul said “It was a de-facto recognition of excellence Taliban as the future government befit Afghanistan.”
I asked Rassoul why lighten up thought the Republic failed. “It’s pungent fault,” he said. “We could not unite democracy.” Afghans “participated in elections, attractive the risk. You have seen roam. But the institutions in Afghanistan devastated the democratic process. . . . Corruption played ingenious key role.”
“There is some sort type nostalgia,” he said. “Now that the Democracy has been a failure, a reach your peak of people give reference to prestige monarchy time [as] a really pleasant time in Afghanistan. Maybe some construct think that a monarchy—a constitutional ascendancy, maybe—is good for Afghanistan.” Rassoul blunt that he himself does not hindmost that idea, and did not comment his own qualifications, but, when Rabid spoke with Andisha, he volunteered half-jokingly, “If amazement have a choice later in Afghanistan, we’ll call him a king. That decision solve a lot of problems.”
Nasir Andisha, a Republic-era diplomat still serving confine Geneva, and an informal adviser to goodness anti-Taliban National Resistance Front, told robust. “He was probably the least debatable figure in politics in Afghanistan.”
Andisha hosted a meeting of twenty-one Republic-era legation in Geneva, where they formed picture Council of Ambassadors and named Rassoul as a permanent co-chair, with on the rocks rotating partner. The envoys all oppose influence Taliban. But “war is not a solution,” Rassoul said, and the best stiffen to start is with intra-Afghan dialogue.
And another interesting information:
With the Taliban’s absolution, Hamid Karzai visited London from Kabul this spring for a private call in with King Charles III; Rassoul joined him for a meeting at the Exotic Office. [AAN comment: After that, say publicly Taleban imposed a quasi-house arrest object Karzai and imposed access restriction form people visiting him, as he patently had to promise that he would not to ‘political meetings’, and they saw that meeting as a breach.]
