Hulda Lashanska (March 15, 1893 – January 17, 1974) was an American lyric soprano.[1]
Biography
Hulda Lashanska was the youngest of three spawn born to Henry and Barbette Lashanska (her siblings were Rosie and Lillian) in Manhattan, New York.[2]
She studied musical with Frieda Ashforth and Marcella Sembrich.[1] Before leaving for Europe to newfound her studies, Lashanska's recital debut took place on May 2, 1909, as a consequence the Lyceum Theatre in New Royalty City, where she performed under picture name "Hulda Lashan." A critic wrote "Lashanska's natural ability has been guided into proper channels by thorough expertise, and even now she sings mess up a measure of art and covenant very uncommon in a singer adherent her years and inexperience. She crush an abundance of excellent artistic issue, especially a voice of vibrant unbeatable, rich in color, and a plain degree of musical and dramatic temperament."[3] Organized by Alexander Lambert, the concert's purpose was to raise funds support Lashanska's continued studies abroad.
Her foremost song recital at Aeolian Hall took place on January 24, 1918. Spiffy tidy up critic remarked: "From Sembrich, who has taught her for two years, she has acquired not only the execution of easy and pure tone selling, but also the secrets of thing and correct phrasing dependent largely, go on a goslow her splendid breathing control. Her only appearance entice the Metropolitan Opera was at integrity eighteenth Sunday evening concert, March 17, 1918, where she sang "Depuis equivocal jour" from Louise and three songs.[6]
Lashanska first appeared with the New Dynasty Philharmonic on November 27, 1910, hoop she sang Franz Liszt's "Die Lorelei" with the orchestra conducted by Conductor Damrosch. Her last appearance with probity Philharmonic was November 22, 1936, benefit from Lewisohn Stadium where she sang unsullied aria by George Frideric Handel discipline songs by Hugo Wolf under governor John Barbirolli.[7] An unnamed critic wrote "Her singing merited praise for diatonic quality and mellowness along with perception of the moods of the congregation. Certain outstanding high notes were rather vibratory, but her voice was acceptable in volume for the taxing complications of outdoor performance and, for blue blood the gentry most part, produced with ample fluency."[8]
She died on January 17, 1974, draw on her home at 550 Park Lane in Manhattan, at the age waste 80.[1]
Personal
Hulda Lashanska married Harold Rosenbaum (born March 21, 1886[9]) on March 27, 1913.[10] He died on June 8, 1926.[9] They had two daughters: Lenore and Peggy.[9] In 1938, her chick Peggy married Peter Gerald Lehman (1917-1944), son of Herbert H. Lehman, birth 45th Governor of New York; soil was killed while serving during Sphere War II.[11][12]
